Chalk-Let Candy Bus!

My dear friend Christine McKernan has started a mobile candy bus! She has named the bus “The Chalk-Let Candy Bus,” and she asked me to shoot her candy inventory for her website. So, I ran down to the Candy Bus while they were hosting a kid’s birthday party and I shot over 50 different kinds of amazing candy. I had so much fun shooting all the different colors and textures. You can find the Candy Bus located on 33rd and Hawthorne on fri, sat, and sun. The Candy Bus is an amazing mobile candy store and it brings you right back to when you were a kid. Check them out on facebook! CANDY!!!!

Occupy Portland Exhibit

This month I have been tracking the events of Occupy Portland. I started to get a lot of positive feedback from the photos I had taken of the movement and decided to exhibit them this week at Be-Mused Boutique. (http://www.bemusedpdx.com/ ) Be-Mused is unveiling their new gallery space and celebrating their 1 year anniversary. The owners asked me to be the first artist to occupy the space and I feel very honored for this opportunity. So, last night I got the prints back and framed 11 different pieces. I also got a photo printed on canvas at www.easycanvasprints.com. I really like this site. They were very professional, had several options, and my canvas was quickly produced and mailed to my front door. They also have great prices and I will use them again in the future!

LoveFoxx of CSS

October has been a very busy month for me. This month I got my first magazine cover for ELEVEN Magazine. I had the honor of meeting LoveFoxx of CSS and lucky for me it made the cover. I am hoping this cover is just the beginning of covers I will do for ELEVEN. We are having a 11.11.11 party at Firkin Tavern this friday. I will be celebrating my first cover and having drinks with the 11 crew. I also have 5 b/w photos up on the wall for sale!!

CAKE

I have been shooting for ELEVEN Magazine now for a few months and this month I was chosen to shoot the band CAKE. They performed at Edgefield in September and I had a blast seeing them in concert. I will be honest i havent listened to a lot of CAKE music but after seeing them live I think that will change. A special thanks to ELEVEN Mag for all the opportunities I have been given.

Signe Toly Anderson of Jefferson Airplane

I met Signe at RAW Artist Showcase @ The Bossanova Ballroom about a month ago.
( www.rawartists.org) She was such a bright light, that after the event I went home and searched for her online. She was one of the original band members of Jefferson Airplane in 1960. I was so excited I instantly emailed her and asked her if I could shoot her portrait. She was so surprised I wanted to shoot her portrait but said YES! So, after a few weeks of planning I went over to her home and spent almost 2 1/2 hours with her. We drank coffee and talked about life, music, death, the 60’s, Janis, The Who, Art, and we even discussed raspberries. I have to say my photoshoot with Signe changed my life. There were times when she would say something and it was like opening a door for me. She is a beautiful woman, an amazing singer and musician, a mother, and well…my new friend.

ELEVEN magazine is here!!!

I met with Ryan and Dustin about 6 months ago about shooting for ELEVEN magazine. Portland did not have a free music publication yet in the city and ELEVEN was ready to make an appearance. I loved what they wanted to introduce to this music filled city and I jumped on the wagon that night. Fast forward 6 months and we are on our 3rd publication and Ryan wanted the whole ELEVEN crew to meet for the first time. So, we met up, discussed ideas, ate pizza, drank beer, and had our first group shot taken. I am really excited about this magazine and everyone on the crew was cool and creative. My kind of people!

Rain and Wind

It is wedding season and boy did I get a big surprise at my last wedding. The wedding was located in Indiana, and a former client of mine flew me out for the summer wedding. The day went smoothly and the ceremony was held in a beautiful garden. After the ceremony and all the planned shots were taken we moved to an outdoor pavilion @ Shady Pines Golf Course. It was a hot day and temperatures had reached to 96 degrees. Just as everyone was enjoying their first cold beer, the power went out and the sky turned a dark gray. Within minutes the rain started and was followed by extreme winds. Before I knew it I was caring a 1 yr old boy in my left arm and my camera in my right arm. We were rushed to an underground safe room and waited for the outcome. The rain kept coming and coming and before we knew it we were standing in a foot of water in the shelter. It only lasted for about an hour and we were able to go above ground. There was a lot of damage and a lot of broken glass. The beautiful thing about this happening was that the family, bridal party, and staff all worked together cleaning up the mess. I was as present as always and captured it all. The bride was upset at first but she had also noticed everyone working together so they could continue on with the reception. It was truly an amazing event and to witness everyone come together was priceless!

Photographer and Art Curator?

I have great news! Just last week I was named the new art curator for the Fab Pdx Art Space located at 1317 SE 9th Street. (www.fabportland.com) It is my job to find artists and provide a positive and creative space for them to display their art. It has been a dream of mine for a long time to run a gallery space and build relationships with other artist. The first show is May 12th, 2011. It is a group show with 5 artist. Samantha Cimino, Kevin Dix, Martin Eggiman Jr, Heather Paske, and Eric Reigert will be representing for the first show at Fab Pdx. These artists are focusing and creating art based on what Fab Pdx stands for. They are all using used materials and focusing on color, texture, and most importantly they are creating one of a kind pieces. Every piece of work will be for sale and will be shown in the gallery for 3 weeks. If you are an artist reading this blog please contact me if you are interested in showing your work at this new space!

RAW: Natural Born Artists

I recently was hired by an organization called RAW Artist. This is an art showcase that happens once a month for nine months in 22 cities. Mike Surber is the Portland director and he hired me to photograph all 9 events this year. I have 3 showcases under my belt and I love it! I go in at 5pm @ The Bossonova Ballroom and I’m done by 11pm. I get to meet artists, dj’s, musicians, models, fashion designers, and a whole bunch of people in between. I am finding myself more and more networked and this city keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Just the other day I was stopped at a stop sign and crossing the street was a RAW artist I had photographed 2 months ago. I yelled out to him and I think I scared him a little but after seeing my face, he remembered who I was. I love living in a city where everyday I can run into somone I know and share a quick hello, or even just a smile.

Fast Takers Release Party

The Fast Takers had their album release party last friday.  I made a trip down to East Inn and got a copy of the record.  A few months ago I worked with art director Allison Beebe and shot the guys for the cover.  We had a blast and got some really good photos. These guys are all great and really fun to work with.  I was pumped to have my first album cover be such a good group of guys. Good luck Fast Takers!
